VISION
Why create a minglespace?
A MingleSpace is a simple way to invite connection into any business, organization, venue, or other public place.
Any place can designate a table or area as a MingleSpace by displaying one of our signs. The sign signals people have permission to walk up and talk with whoever is there.
Each sign links to our library of conversation prompts organized into progressive levels of depth, designed to help strangers go from “hello” to something more meaningful, whether someone's alone, traveling, new to the city, or hanging out with friends. Prompts also remove the pressure of small talk, making it easy for people to strike up a conversation. Visitors can also share short “conversation highlights” — ideas or moments that get summarized to spark new collaborations in their communities.
This small addition can turn a regular visit into an opportunity to meet new people. People might chat, trade ideas, or simply say hello. These interactions can help create a welcoming atmosphere, encourage return visits, and make places feel more open and connected. Read about other benefits and ideas below.

ABOUT
Spontaneous connection with strangers is getting rarer all the time. Even in cafes, parks, and events full of people, there’s often no clear way to say hi.
Everyday places are missing a simple piece of social infrastructure — a visible signal that it’s okay to talk to someone you haven't met yet. That gap leads to missed connections, untapped ideas, and unnecessary loneliness.
MingleSpaces make it easy for places to close that gap. A simple sign creates a connection spot — a table or area where anyone can drop in, scan a QR code, and start talking through built-in prompts and light activities. A MingleSpace isn’t an event, and it doesn’t require an RSVP or profile. It’s simply an open spot to meet new people — a space designed to help strangers start talking and share ideas.

WHO
Why create a minglespace?
Venues (businesses, organizations, institutions):
-
Create ongoing MingleSpaces that appear in the public Places Directory. Once it’s set up, it runs itself — no host required. See our Guide page for more details.
Individuals / community organizers:
-
Host short-term pop-up MingleSpaces (like a Table Chat or event demo). Pop-ups are temporary and depend on you being present, but they’re a great way to show venues how it works. See our Get Involved page for more.
